Kirklees College Students Steal the Show with Professional Music Video

Share:

In November 2021, Kirklees College became the first college to partner with Film Buddy, an online platform for creatives designed to bridge the gap between education and industry.

The partnership has seen our Music, Media and Performing Arts visit their film studios in Huddersfield as part of a live placement brief to produce an industry-standard music video.

This music video features a band of three music students, who go by the name, ‘Hastings Place’, who wrote and performed an original piece of music titled ‘Mannequins’.

Our Performing Arts students also play a pivotal role in the atmosphere of the video, wearing white morph suits to match the ‘Mannequin’ theme and showcasing their contemporary dancing skills.

The Media students took on the roles of editors, camera operators, producers, directors and sound technicians to direct, produce and edit the music video.

Using professional equipment and software, our students were able to achieve a professional standard that reflects the quality of the work produced in industry.

The students worked alongside a range of industry professionals, including Fergus Hattan (Videographer), Shane Hamill (Film Producer), Andrew Bohannan (Multi-Skilled Technician) and Ben Sweet (Director of Film Buddy), who helped to oversee the success of the project.

Speaking about the project, Emma Crosland, Work Placement Employer Liaison Officer for Creative Industries said:

“It’s essential that our Music, Media and Performing Arts students gain real-life work experience and understand how the different roles in the Creative Industries collaborate on projects such as these.

We are really grateful for Ben Sweet, Director of Film Buddy’s vision of supporting new talent and bringing opportunities to young people.

They have been receiving fantastic guidance and learning essential skills from industry experts and this is a partnership we hope to continue to provide further opportunities for our students.
