Course Overview
This apprenticeship is designed to give a wide range of skills appropriate to the different occupations in the industry. Furniture manufacturers must be dexterous, have a good work ethic and able to demonstrate their ability to work individually and as part of a team.
On the modern upholsterer pathway, you will learn how to prepare and cut fabric, fit, apply and finish top covers, including fluting, pleating and buttoning. You will learn methods used to construct frames and how to make repairs to revive and polish show-wood frame. You will use machinery to produce sewn and seamed components and understand how to select materials for suspensions, including springs, pocket springs, sprung units and webbing.
The apprenticeship includes mandatory and optional units. You will develop an understanding of the manufacturing process and how you fit into it, from what materials to use through to customer expectations and quality standards. You will also understand the relevant health and safety regulations and sustainability in the industry.

Core Skills Gained:
GCSE English and maths at grade 2 or above.

Apprentices will be required to achieve the knowledge, skills and behaviours within the training plan whilst carrying out off-the-job training (OFTJ) and the successful completion of a portfolio of work-based evidence. Once all assessments are completed, you will go through the End Point Assessment which will involve knowledge tests and observations.
