This apprenticeship is aimed at those wishing to work as a Mechanical Fitter, Electrical Fitter, Electronic Fitter, Instrumentation Fitter, Pipe Fitter or Controls and Systems Fitter.

Course Overview

As an apprentice you will be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week and attend college one day a week. You will also be expected to complete a block placement in college at the start of your apprenticeship.

Typically, fitters may specialise in either mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems, pipe fitting or instrumentation. Their role is multi-faceted and can operate across multiple disciplines depending on the type of assembly that is required.
You will learn how to produce or re-furbish components, interpret drawings and specifications and plan your work accordingly. You will be expected to demonstrate that you can produce, refurbish, assemble and adjust components to a high standard.
You will gain the skills needed to read and interpret component and assembly specifications, as well as how to prepare your work area, carry out relevant planning, measure and inspect components and assembly. This will include analysing and fixing issues where appropriate. You will learn how to apply improvement techniques and communicate with colleagues and customers, as well as complete component and assembly documentation.
As an apprentice, you will learn the importance of health and safety regulations and how to apply them to your role. You will also learn how you contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures workplace.

Core Skills Gained:

A minimum of grade 4 or above in GCSE English, maths and a science or technology subject.

To start your apprenticeship you must have secured employment that the college has agreed is suitable.
Higher level apprenticeship/HNC
Degree level qualification
Full-time employment

You will be required to complete a portfolio of work both written and practical. The end point assessment involves a portfolio based occupational competence interview and professional assessment using a performance indicator report form.
