Course Overview

Cyber Security Technicians provide the first line of cyber security response for any organisation. This role involves collaborating internally and externally to support secure business operations by monitoring and detecting potential threats and escalating them when necessary. You will learn how to deliver a security culture across an organisation, understand vulnerabilities and threats and support the development of an organisation’s cyber security plan.
You will learn how to install procedures and technical security controls in accordance with relevant standards to maintain an organisation’s security. You will also be the help desk point of contact and process requests ensuring confidentiality and integrity. You will monitor compliance, identify security incidents and escalate these when necessary, as well as provide relevant data to auditors if required.
You will study how to conduct specific cyber security tasks in line with relevant procedures and standards. You will have to implement specific cyber security mechanisms and controls, including patching software, installing software updates, implementing access control, configuring firewalls, security incident and event management tools (SIEM) tools and protection tools (anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spam).
From your experience of applying policies, you will review cyber security policies in line with the appropriate guidelines. You will take responsibility for your own self-development by keeping up to date with industry trends and developments to enhance your skills. You must have a suitable employer to be able to start an apprenticeship and be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

Core Skills Gained:

GCSE grade 4 or above in maths and English.

To start your apprenticeship you must have secured employment that the college has agreed is suitable.
Level 4 apprenticeship in fields of networks and cybersecurity
