College isn’t just for school leavers, and starting a college course as an adult can be a great way to upskill yourself and reinvigorate your career. Kirklees College, based in Huddersfield and Dewsbury, has a range of low-cost adult learning courses starting this Spring and Autumn, that offer an exciting pathway to enhanced learning and new career options.

There are a lot of misconceptions about adult learning – that it is costly, time consuming and hard to access for people in full-time work and caring responsibilities. The best part about Kirklees College’s adult offer is that it is none of these things. Many of the college’s courses cost less than £100, with financial support also available to those wanting to undertake a longer, or higher-level course that may cost more. The college also works with a range of employers, meaning that courses such as Skills Bootcamps, maths and English courses and work-related CPD courses may be covered by your employer.

The college has a range of short community courses starting this April and May that are perfect for people wanting to learn new skills. For example, there are a range of art and design, music production, photography, sewing, cooking, craft and DIY courses running this Spring that are low-cost and inclusive for beginners. Each course is delivered at one of the college’s seven specialist centres in Huddersfield and Dewsbury, giving you access to their state-of-the-art facilities, such as art studios, professional kitchens and specialist construction centre.

If you want to make a longer-term investment in your professional development, then check out the college’s website for courses starting either this Spring or from September, including higher education courses. Higher education courses start at Level 4 and go up to Level 7 (equivalent to a post-graduate degree) at Kirklees College, and qualifications are available in Animal Management, Art and Design, Beauty Therapy, Business (Leadership and Management), Engineering and Teaching. All courses cost less than a university degree and are part-time, meaning that you can continue to work whilst studying.

The college is also a proud provider of a suite of Access to HE Diploma courses for adults. The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at degree level. Courses are designed, in particular, for people who have been out of education for some time, especially those who left school with too few qualifications to be able to go straight to university.
