Course Overview
Craft bricklayers typically work in the new build, refurbishment and heritage sectors and work on specialist projects, including work on listed buildings. They are masters in their field and by starting this apprenticeship, you can become one too. Before starting your apprenticeship, you will need to secure suitable employment, which could be with a smaller firm, or large company.
You will also learn about the wider construction industry and gain skills required to collaborate with wider tradespeople, such as site carpenters and roofers.
During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to set out and lay bricks, brick specials, blocks and complex walls, plus features such as chimneys and decorative masonry work. You will also develop the professional skills required to take the lead on site as a technical expert, as craft bricklayers are often responsible for delivering the masonry elements of construction projects.
You will also be required to undertake thorough health and safety training to prepare you for working safely on site. Your college sessions will be delivered in our workshops at Brunel Construction Centre in Huddersfield.
