Course Overview
This apprenticeship is designed to give a wide range of skills appropriate to the different occupations in the industry. Furniture manufacturers must be dexterous, have a good work ethic and able to demonstrate their ability to work individually and as part of a team.
On the wood machinist pathway, you will learn how to measure and mark out materials to specification within the acceptable tolerances following standard operating procedures, select, prepare and maintain wood machining tooling, prepare, set up and operate cutting wood machinery and prepare, set up and operate planes.
The apprenticeship includes mandatory and optional units for both pathways. You will develop an understanding of the manufacturing process and how you fit into it, from what materials to use through to customer expectations and quality standards. You will also understand the relevant health and safety regulations and sustainability in the industry.

Apprentices will be required to achieve the knowledge, skills and behaviours within the training plan whilst carrying out off-the-job training (OFTJ) and the successful completion of a portfolio of work-based evidence. Once all assessments are completed, you will go through the End Point Assessment which will involve knowledge tests and observations.
