Course Overview

To be an apprentice you need to be working for a minimum of 30 hours a week and be able to attend college one day a week. Installation Electricians work on the installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of low voltage (less than 1000v) electrical and electronic devices and appliances. You might work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Our tutors will teach you how to connect and disconnect conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems and how to
diagnose and correct electrical faults in electro technical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment. You will also be expected to understand and apply the electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.
On your apprenticeship you will use engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills. You will contribute to the design, development, manufacture, construction, commissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes, systems or services. By the end of your apprenticeship you will understand the practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electro technical equipment in buildings, structures and the environment.
Health and Safety is an important element of your apprenticeship. You will learn to understand and apply health and safety and environmental regulations, guidance notes and relevant codes of practice; and the requirements of current Wiring Regulations.

As part of your apprenticeship you will develop your communication skills. All apprentices learn about the importance of working in a way that contributes to sustainability and about environmental legislation.

Core Skills Gained:

A minimum of GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above.

To start your apprenticeship you must have secured employment that the college has agreed is suitable.

Level 4 qualification, professional qualification or full time employment.

To successfully complete your apprenticeship you must pass an on-line assessment, a portfolio of work, complete a skills test and undertake a professional discussion.
