November 8 2024 is STEM Day and to celebrate, we wanted to show appreciation to Samantha Stott, Kirklees College Engineering alumna.

Samantha joined us at the age of 28 with no previous experience in Engineering or qualifications. She joined our Level 3 Manufacturing Engineering course and had to take her GCSE English and Maths alongside her course. At the end of the year, she completed her course with a grade of D*D* as well as her GCSE’s!

Since leaving Kirklees College, she has endeavoured to continue her education in the engineering sector by completing another Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering and an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacturing, gaining yet another grade of D*D*.

Samantha went on to complete her Bachelors of Engineering in Electronic Engineering with First Class Honours. She was accepted onto a graduate scheme working on Royal Navy vessels, her favourite being her time on the HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier. This scheme helped her to develop her skills in software, electronic and electrical, mechanical, in-life support, field service and much more.

Not stopping there, Samantha has been given to opportunity to work for her Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering to help her become the subject matter expert at the company she works at full-time.

When speaking about her time at Kirklees College Samantha said:

“Looking back at the last 8 years, I think it would be fair to say that I wouldn’t have got here without the great care of Kirklees College. And a very special thank you goes to my Electrical Engineering teacher Chris Eastwood for his enthusiasm and for giving me the confidence to start a career as an Electrical and Electronics Engineer.”
