On Friday 24 May, Kirklees College formally reopened the door of Boothroyd’s Salon at Pioneer Higher Skills Centre to the public.
The salon, which offers hair, beauty and spa treatments, is one of the college’s key training facilities. The salon’s opening to the public, however, was sadly delayed due to the Covid pandemic, and Friday’s event celebrated its front door being back open for business.
Principal Palvinder Singh and Curriculum Area Manager for Hair and Beauty in Dewsbury, Claire Sayce, both said a few words to guests before Julie Arechiga, Deputy Principal for Curriculum and Innovation, cut the ribbon outside the entrance to formally reopen the doors.
Speaking at the event, Claire Sayce said:
“It has always been a dream for the team at Dewsbury to have a town centre salon based at Kirklees College. Not only does the salon enable our students to develop their skills in a real live working environment, it also supports the community as we are able to offer high quality services and treatments at very affordable prices which has a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our communities.”
Principal Palvinder Singh also commented on the positive impact that the salon has had on the local community, students and staff. He recalled coming to see the salon when it was first being built during the renovation of Pioneer Higher Skills Centre, and commended the staff involved in regenerating the salon for their efforts.
Guests were then treated to canapes and drinks, invited to play spin the wheel and enter the raffle, filled with professional salon standard hair and beauty tools and treatments. Kirklees College students also offered guests hand and back massage and hair straightening, curling and plaiting to show off just some of the treatments on offer at Boothroyd’s Salon.
