Kirklees College students and staff from the Hair and Beauty, Barbering, ESOL, Media and Foundation Departments worked together to organise a fundraising event to raise money for Epilepsy Action, a charity that improves the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy.
As part of their fundraising activities, students and staff did manicures, ladies’ hairstyling, gents’ haircuts, a bake sale, luxury raffle and balloon lucky dip which managed to raise a brilliant £1,000 for the charity.
Tracy Mangan, winner of ‘Yorkshire’s Best Barber’ attended the event. She delivered an inspirational presentation about succeeding in a male-dominated industry and performed countless demonstrations, giving the student top tips on how to better themselves professionally.
Tracy is a long-term supporter of the college and has worked with the Hair and Beauty department previously.
Students and staff from all departments enjoyed the lively atmosphere and are looking forward to the next fundraising event at college.
Barbering lecturer Nick Stephenson said:
