Kirklees College is delighted to launch the Elite Football Development Programme alongside Huddersfield Town Football Club, a course designed to help 16-18-year olds looking to pursue a career in sport.

Taking advantage of the teaching at Kirklees College and the facilities at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex, the qualification has been designed to develop skills and understanding of the sports coaching industry, preparing participants for a variety of potential roles that you can pursue in the sector. This qualification is the equivalent in UCAS points to 3 A-levels and allows entry to university courses.

Evening training sessions will take place with Huddersfield Town Academy with access to not only the coaching but also the gym and classrooms, so that matches can be analysed and discussed to improve coaching and game understanding.

Participants will train twice a week and play competitive fixtures, with the course open to those who have the potential to play at an elite level and to develop a career in the football industry. Working towards gaining a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, as well as developing technical, tactical and physical footballing skills, it’s a real opportunity to experience how elite level sport operates.

The programme looks in depth at what goes in to creating top-class athletes. The course goes into depth with many aspects of the game including analysis, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sports psychology.

Mathew Gartland, Head of Faculty – Health and Social Care, Childcare, Sport and Public Services, at Kirklees College said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Huddersfield Town on our brand-new Elite Football Development Programme. At Kirklees College, our mission is to create opportunities and change lives and we hope that this new venture will champion upcoming local talent. This programme will allow us to offer young people with the unique opportunity to gain a recognised qualification in a top-class sporting environment.”

Huddersfield Town Commercial Director Ian Birtley added:

“It’s brilliant to see this partnership with Kirklees College develop and we’re really excited to see where this new opportunity goes – it’s such a superb and unique opportunity for local young people to develop their skills and use our incredible facilities at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex.

“I’d like to thank the team at Kirklees College for their hard work on this, and I’d encourage anyone interested to contact the Course Information team at the College to find out more.”
