Level 1 Hair and Beauty students recently welcomed Emma Hemingway from The Beauty Loft in Dewsbury for a range of industry-focused guest sessions.
A former Kirklees College student, she has since established herself as a successful self-employed hairstylist and colourist.
An engaging and informative session for the students
During her visit, Emma delivered an engaging and informative presentation that highlighted her qualifications, professional journey, and the motivation behind her career in the Hair and Beauty sector. She also shared valuable guidance, offering practical hints and tips for those beginning their own pathways in the industry.
The class participated enthusiastically, asking a wide range of questions and expressing how insightful they found the session.
As part of the visit, Emma introduced a Live Brief project that requires students to develop a professional digital portfolio showcasing their skills, creativity, and practical work completed throughout the course.
Later in the year, she will return to review the completed portfolios and provide personalised feedback to support students’ ongoing development.
Emma really enjoyed her return to the college, saying: “I really enjoyed speaking with the students and sharing both my qualification journey and my experiences from working in industry.
“It was a genuinely valuable and rewarding opportunity, and I appreciated the chance to offer insights that might support their next steps.”
