Motor vehicle

Love cars? Enjoy fixing or modifying things to get better performance? We offer the latest technologies and machinery in our specialist workshops.

A word from us

The number of cars on UK roads is still growing, and the average age of cars is increasing which means that less people were buying new cars.

This is good news for people training in the motor vehicle industry.

Motor vehicle technicians repair and service cars, vans, motorbikes, lorries and coaches.

You can work on all vehicle mechanics and electrics, from engines and exhaust systems to air-conditioning and security, via both computer diagnostic testing and hands-on fault finding.

Our study programmes and Apprenticeships cover these elements, and some also train you on body repairs and respray work.

We’re looking for students with strong practical hands-on skills, who are good at problem-solving.

Working with cars also means working with people so you’ll also need to have the potential to develop good customer service and communication skills.

A word from our students

I have had ‘dead-end’ jobs since school. I was sitting in a call centre thinking why am I here? I decided it was time to make a change. I enrolled at Kirklees College and have never looked back.
I've really surprised myself and can’t wait to see what the future holds, there are so many opportunities.
