Yesterday, Kirklees College received a visit from Musharaf Asghar at our Huddersfield Centre to give an inspirational talk to a crowd mostly comprised of students enrolled on our ESOL courses.
Musharaf is now a keynote speaker and a journalist, but before this, he was most well known for his appearance on the show ‘Educating Yorkshire’ when he was around the same age as the students he spoke to. In the series, he goes through challenges with not being able to speak due to a severe stammer, which ESOL students were inspired by and able to relate to.
In his speech, he focused on being able to accept the challenges that you have to face and putting in the effort despite those challenges. He also encouraged the students to be willing to ask for help from those around them, just like he did when he was their age.
After his speech, Musharaf presented some of our outstanding students with certificates and awards to congratulate them for their attendance, punctuality and excellence.
Robina Hussain, Curriculum Area Manager for ESOL said:
“It was fantastic for our students to hear from Musharaf Asghar. His talk was particularly inspiring for our ESOL students who may have faced similar hardships in terms of tackling challenges in a new environment. Our students were really excited to hear the talk, and lots of our students even came over from our Springfield Sixth Form Centre. Thank you so much Musharaf, you are an inspiration to our students.”
Thank you Musharaf, for taking the time to inspire our students. For more information about ESOL courses at Kirklees College, visit: ESOL – Kirklees College
