Amy Mills, a Health and Social Care Level 3 student at Kirklees College, has recently completed all of her placements with outstanding feedback in every area.
She gained valuable experience at Lindley Grange Care Home and on the Cardiology Ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital, demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and excellent care throughout.
Amy has been explaining the parts of these placements that she has enjoyed, the skills she has gained, and her aspirations for the future.
What were your favourite elements of both placements?
My favourite part of both placements has been interacting with the patients and residents. Whilst I was doing my placement at Calderdale Royal Hospital, I met and spoke to some lovely patients on the ward as I walked around quite often doing jobs all around.
During my time at Lindley Grange Care Home, I met and spoke to a few lovely residents; I went out on trips with the residents and I loved to talk to them. Overall, both were great experiences.
What skills have you gained?
During my time at the hospital, I was able to work on professionalism, reliability, and develop my ability to work with other staff and maybe other people at the placement.
Whilst I was at Lindley Grange care home, my communication skills also improved, because I learned how to interact with every resident, including those who are non-verbal.
What are you hoping to do once you’ve finished at college?
After I have finished at Kirklees College, I would love to go to university and complete a degree in Paramedic Science.
What’s your overall career aspiration and dream job?
My overall dream is to become a paramedic because my biggest dream is to help people regardless of any aspect of life, and I would love to be someone who would be there if someone needs it. I also love working in partnership with other colleagues and friends. I am still keeping my options open somewhat and have also thought about becoming either a cardiology nurse or a carer for the elderly. All of these seem like really rewarding careers.
