On the second day of Colleges Week 2026, we are celebrating the students who are improving their vocational skills, building confidence, and working towards their futures.

In addition to the skills they are developing in the classroom, many Kirklees College students are also benefiting from career-enhancing work placements.

As a college. we are committed to supporting our students to develop their knowledge in the classroom and apply it in the workplace. Gaining valuable experience through a quality placement is key to achieving this.

Current students reflect on their experiences of placement

Neha Mahmood is a Level 2 Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings student, and has loved her experiences on placement at Chestnut Nursery. Neha said: “I really enjoy working with the children and helping them in the classroom, especially with things like reading. All the other staff are really nice and supportive, and they are helping me a lot.”

Edward Pratt is an Engineering Student on placement at Extract Technology Ltd. In a recent video posted on college social media, Edward explained what he loves about his placement and how he hopes to utilise the skills he’s developing.

Rubi Craddock is a T Level Health student and is currently on placement at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation. She was recently recognised for her efforts in the workplace during our Employer Thank You Dinner. Throughout her placement, Rubi has constantly received outstanding feedback, reflecting her strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to build meaningful relationships with patients, families, and staff. Her passion for working with children was reinforced during her time on the children’s ward.
