Remembering our heroes this year

This Remembrance Day, Kirklees College proudly supported the Remember from Home event.

Due to the restrictions in place to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, Kirklees residents were encouraged to stay at home and tune-in to an online Remembrance Sunday service – with local landmarks also lighting up red as the borough remembers its heroes in a different way this year.

The online Civic event consisted of a pre-recorded church service and wreath laying by the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Mumtaz Hussain, at Huddersfield Parish Church which was available to live stream on Kirklees Council’s website.

The Kirklees College community also paid their respects to members of the armed forces by observing the national 2-minute silence across all centres.

There were some fantastic displays in the Huddersfield and Springfield Centre featuring poppies handmade by staff and students. Our level 1 science students created some poppy wreaths to commemorate the contribution of members of the armed forces.
