Row of people stood in a line in front of two big windows

National Apprenticeship Week 2025 has been a resounding success at Kirklees College once again. On top of recruitment fairs, careers talk to students and other promotional activities, this week has also been the perfect opportunity to celebrate the successes of the people in our KC Community who are championing apprenticeships.

The week began with a visit to our capital city for Apprenticeship Programme Lead, Alex Domun. Alex’s SWAP Programme, which helps people who are currently out of work access training in warehousing, was nominated for Best Workplace Readiness Scheme in the Apprenticeship and Training Awards. As a result, Alex was invited down to the House of Commons to a Parliamentary reception for the nominees.

Tuesday 11 February was ‘Employer Tuesday’, a chance to shine a spotlight on some of our key employer partners, including Ben Wright from Seatable Ltd. Speaking about working with Kirklees College, Ben commented:

“We’ve worked with Kirklees College for a number of years. They’ve always been fantastic to us, helping us find the right candidate and the right fit for the position. They’ve always been very adaptable […] depending on the student – they’ve always been brilliant and changing the teaching or type of learning that needs to be done for [individual] students to get the very best for the employer.”

Wednesday 12 February was ‘Apprentice Wednesday, a chance to celebrate the achievements of our outstanding apprentices. We recently interviewed Thomas, a Fabrication Supervisor Manager at Mac’s Trucks and former apprentice, about his career journey. Talking about his apprenticeship experience, Thomas said:

“I enjoyed college, the tutors were all very knowledgeable and set me up with a good base of skills [leading to] my promotion.”

National Apprenticeship Week also allows for the spotlight to be shone on T Levels, and the amazing hands-on technical experiences they bring. On T Level Thursday, we spoke to T Level Adult Nursing students Gabriella and Rejoyce. Gabriella said:

“I love the hands-on experience on my course. It’s so different from just being in a classroom! Facilities like the anatomage table help us understand the body’s systems in a really engaging way.”

Rejoyce commented:

“I enjoy research projects and presenting our findings. My favourite topic is genetics and DNA! Our tutors are fantastic – they really take the time to ensure we understand everything for our exams”.

To wrap up the week, we will be continuing to post case studies and highlights from the week on our social media platforms.
