Our Esports students are set to level up with real industry experience as Yorkshire-based Esports company, Lucent, are offering work experience as part of their partnership with Kirklees College.

With work experience opportunities available in social media management, Esports team management and partnership/sponsorship for students on Kirklees College’s new Esports courses, Lucent are aiming to showcase Esports and the gaming industry as a viable and inspiring career opportunity with transferable skills to any industry.

Lucent is an Esports brand that gives players a platform to game on. Specialising in League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the company is a facilitator of national Esports events where players have the opportunity to earn cash prizes.

The work experience will see students take part in various tasks and duties that are designed to offer genuine insight into the booming Esports industry. The social media management experience will give students the chance to develop extensive social media plans and build brands, the Esports team management roles will offer opportunities for team building, establishing an organisation and promoting positive health and wellbeing. The final pathway, partnerships and sponsorship management will provide students with the ability to identify brands to fit the business and present their findings to Barclays, who partner with Lucent to help grow the UK games industry.

Furkan Uddin, Curriculum Area Manager – Business Management, IT and Digital Computing at Kirklees College said:

“We’re delighted to be able to offer this one of a kind experience for students and are excited to be collaborating with Lucent to offer real insight into the Esports industry. It will help the students develop skills that are transferable to almost any role but in an environment that aligns with their ambition of having a future career in Esports.

“Lucent has done a lot of work with these three roles to give our students core skills and are demonstrating their commitment to improving our students by providing daily briefings to support the students and providing industry feedback that is bespoke to each individual learner.”

William Gleadall, Director of Operations at Lucent Esports added:

“We’ve been around since 2018 and this partnership with Kirklees College is designed to offer opportunities to students that we didn’t have starting out in the Esports industry. It’s amazing to see not just at Kirklees College but nationally, how big the industry is growing and continues to develop which means really exciting future careers will be available for students.

“We wanted to provide students with genuine work experience that will help them secure their dream positions in Esports. We’re the first provider to partner with a college and I can’t wait to see what the students can bring to these varied roles.”
