Kirklees College ran a creative writing competition over the lockdown period to encourage students to use their free time to discover a new hobby and develop their skills.
As part of the initiative launched by the English department, students were challenged to express their feelings, thoughts and experiences about the coronavirus pandemic in the form of a short story, poem or rap.
The competition received a fantastic response, with students showcasing their creativity and talent in their entries that captured both their personal emotions and those of the wider community during the lockdown period.
The winning entry was announced as Hafsah Hussain who will receive a £50 Amazon voucher. Second place was awarded to Emma Boothroyd and third place was given to Sadaf Hamidfar.
Helen Watts, Head of Faculty for English, Maths and Alternative Provision, said:
“A huge thank you to everyone who entered our Lockdown Writing Competition. We received lots of amazing entries which shared all of your lockdown experiences, thoughts and feelings. It has been great to see how our students are continuing to produce fantastic work remotely and we hope they continue to hone the creative writing skills they have developed over the lockdown period.”
