Kirklees College is proud to announce its affiliation with the Black Further Education Leadership Group (BFELG).
The BFELG was formed in July 2020 and aims to challenge systematic racism in the Further Education sector for the benefit of all Black communities and the wider UK society as a whole. The organisation’s mission is aligned with the inclusive and diverse values of the college and will support its pledge to promote an anti-racist culture within the community.
As part of the affiliation, Kirklees College will be implementing the 10-point tool kit to inform its anti-racism strategy and promote equality within the college community. The toolkit centres around the revision of curriculum and qualifications, an anti-racism approach to professional development, publishing annual data and redressing imbalances in the recruitment process.
The affiliation follows the KC Stand Together Pledge which was launched last year to uphold promote equality and show solidarity in the college community. The Students’ Union created the KC Wall of Unity where staff and students contributed their pledge against racism and showed their support for their fellow Black colleagues.
