Kirklees College recently held its annual College Outstanding Learner Success (COLS) Awards ceremony at the Huddersfield Centre, recognising exceptional achievements by students across the college.

The event, now in its thirteenth year, took place on Thursday, 15 June, and celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of students who have excelled academically, contributed to college life, and demonstrated remarkable personal qualities throughout the year.

In addition to the 39 curriculum area accolades presented, one student, Michael Bennett Bottomley, studying Bricklaying at the Brunel Construction Centre, received the prestigious overall prize for his outstanding achievement and contribution to the KC Community.

The COLS awards hold a rich history, originating from the Thomas Armytage Technical School Endowment of 1879.  They have become a symbol of recognition and inspiration for students at Kirklees College, inspiring them to strive for excellence and embody the organisation’s core values.

Winners of the COLS Awards received a monetary prize from the fund, along with a trophy and certificate, acknowledging their remarkable accomplishments.

The ceremony, hosted by local comedian and Kirklees College alumni, Peter Emmett, was filled with joy and excitement as students, staff, and employers came together to celebrate their outstanding achievements.

Guests were treated to a delightful two-course buffet, skilfully prepared and served by the talented Hospitality and Catering students, showcasing the college’s commitment to providing real-world experience and practical skills.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the evening featured a captivating performance by Mezcal, Kirklees College’s own student band, who enthralled the audience with their musical talent and energy.

Palvinder Singh, Principal and Chief Executive at Kirklees College said:

“We are delighted to reaffirm Kirklees College’s unwavering commitment to ‘Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives’ through our recent COLS ceremony. We had the honour of acknowledging our remarkable students who have wholeheartedly seized the opportunities offered by Kirklees College, bringing about transformative changes in their lives.

This year’s COLS witnessed a tremendous response, with an impressive number of over 100 students being nominated by their dedicated tutors for their outstanding accomplishments. It was truly a remarkable and inspiring celebration, as we gathered to recognise the exceptional achievements of our students. They have not only served as a source of inspiration for their peers but have also become exemplars of our core values: kindness, unity, and excellence.”
