Today is the start of T Levels Week 2024, a chance for T Level providers like Kirklees College to celebrate T Level students, teachers and work placement employers. Kirklees College has been a T Level provider for over three years and is proud to run T Levels in Health, Engineering, Animal Care, Business, Construction, Science and Education, plus more to come in 2025.

A T Level is a two-year course which is taken after GCSEs and is equivalent to 3 A-levels. T Levels are technical qualifications that combine 80% classroom learning with 20% work placement. These qualifications have been designed with businesses, to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in industry.

Over the past three years, Kirklees College has built an amazing network of employer partners to deliver amazing T Level placement opportunities to students. Our partners, which range from major national companies such as Lloyds Banking, to local health and childcare providers, have provided placement opportunities for students that are not only essential to them gaining their qualification, but also offer further opportunities for students. For example, Lloyds Banking Group have offered four T Level students the chance to join their apprenticeship scheme in September 2025, with students finding out if they have secured a place in January. 70% of our Engineering students also secured a full-time position after their placement and are now employed by some of the top companies in the local area, including Air Tanker, Score, John Fredricks and YPS.

T Levels also offer progression to university study. Last year’s cohort of Health T Level students were offered places on a variety of healthcare degrees, including nursing and midwifery, and have gone to universities across the country, including University of Manchester, London Southbank University and the University of Huddersfield.

T Levels week is a government-run campaign to promote the programmes to school leavers. Minister for Skills Jacqui Smith said:

“This government is backing T Levels as a top-quality qualification, helping young people develop skills to seize opportunity. T Levels offer hands-on experience in the workplace and excellent career prospects for young people seeking skilled work or further study. This September saw us launch three new subjects, with another set to launch next year. I’m delighted to see more employers getting behind T Levels by offering industry placements, including Amazon, Lloyds Banking Group, and Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, helping to nurture future talent and support the development of in-demand skills.”

Throughout the week, we will be highlighting more successes from our T Level students and our T Level offer across our social media channels. Applications for our T Level programmes and T Level Foundation Years starting in September 2025 are now open. Click here to find out more and apply now.
