The Kirklees College Green Changemakers recently opened their practice to colleagues across the college as part of an event called Green Confetti.
What is a Green Changemaker?
A Green Changemaker is someone who helps turn good environmental intentions into real, sustainable action within their organisation. Rather than operating through formal committees or isolated sustainability roles, Green Changemakers form dynamic, collaborative communities that work alongside everyday college life, which is often described as a “second operating system.”
The Kirklees College Green Gamechangers officially launched at our Taylor Hill Animal Centre in 2025, with a focus on promoting the Kirklees College value of kindness.
This Green Confetti event focused on what was described as ‘joyful climate action projects’ with the emphasis on finding our climate joy and how we can collectively move forward with hope and imagination.
The sessions were led by Dr Lou Mycroft, a key facilitator of Green Gamechangers for colleges across the country. Lou spoke about unlocking potential for individuals and organisations, to drive meaningful change through transformative facilitation, coaching, and community building.
Earlier in the week, Lou had worked with members of our Construction and Engineering teams, where there was more discussion about how to open up more pathways for Green Gamechangers.
Everyone was delighted with the day’s activities
Dr Lou Mycroft said: “Our Green Confetti event was a joyful day, co-planned and facilitated by the Kirklees College Green Changemakers. Colleagues from across the College joined changemakers from neighbouring colleges to think together, explore climate science with the RoundView games, and participate in a ‘Radical Stitching’ workshop.”
“We were delighted to be joined by students, who played their part in the hopefulness of the day.”
Davana Tomkin-Salmon, People and Culture Advisor at Kirklees College, was delighted with how the day went, saying: “It was a great buzz throughout the day, and it was also lovely to welcome external colleagues.”
