On Monday 27 January, Kirklees College hosted its KC Star Awards at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield to recognise the outstanding achievements of our inspirational teaching team and exceptional business support staff who go above and beyond to support our students.

Darren Rayneau, Vice Principal for Business Systems Information and Technology and Steve Plumstead, Curriculum Director were comperes for the evening and guests enjoyed a buffet and performances from the KC Afro Dance Club and music students. There was also a raffle in aid of Forget Me Not Hospice, the college’s charity partner of the year, which raised over £500.

This year the ceremony was of special significance as the college celebrates 200 years of technical education in Kirklees and served as a reminder of those who have been part of shaping the college’s legacy to ensure it is still a key part of the community.

There were 12 category winners and runners-up at the awards who all received trophies and certificates. Staff were celebrated in categories such as Unsung Hero, Outstanding Collaborator, Best Newcomer, Exceptional Leader and many more. Maths and English won the Curriculum Team of the Year and MIS and Student Records won Business Support Team of the Year.

Philippa Lucarz, Executive Director of People and Culture said:

“This is our year of excellence, and we know that excellence is the result of the hard work and collective contribution of all staff working in a kind, unified, and excellent way with a shared purpose of creating opportunities that change lives. This hard work and commitment are genuinely valued and reflected back to us through the KC experience, so thank you to all of our staff.

Our KC Stars event offered a special opportunity to come together and celebrate those who, while embodying our values of Kindness, Unity, and Excellence, have gone above and beyond in the service of our mission and college community.”
