Connor Roberts, a Level 3 Electrical Installation apprentice at Kirklees College placed runner-up at this year’s regional North West SPARKS Apprentice of the Year competition, which took place at Wigan and Leigh College on Thursday 3 February.
The SPARKS Apprentice of the Year competition runs annually and offers electrical students and apprentices the chance to show off their skills and provides the opportunity for them to kickstart their careers.
Connor, who finished runner-up said:
“I really enjoyed taking part in the SPARKS Apprentice of the Year competition as it covered topics I had been learning in class. It was challenging but achievable.
I enjoyed meeting new people who had the same interests as me and comparing our experiences. I was allocated time to practice for the event in college as well as gaining experience in my job. I am happy with my end product after I had finished the installation.”
Ryan Winstanley, Electrical Learning Assessment Officer at Kirklees College, added:
“I’m pleased for Connor, coming a runner-up in the North West regional SPARKS Apprentice of the Year competition. Connor should be proud of his achievement of representing Kirklees College and taking part in the regional event. Connor will have a bright future within the electrical industry if he keeps up the hard work and producing work to a high standard.”
