Kirklees College is the first college to partner with Film Buddy, an online platform for creatives designed to bridge the gap between education and industry and support new talent. Founded by Ben Sweet who is based in Huddersfield, the platform aims to provide opportunities to students from all different backgrounds.

Working in partnership with the Creative Industries department, students will have access to an online employer experience with a pool of employers who can offer work placements and employment within the film, television and creative media industries.

Film Buddy also allows students to develop their employability skills, with opportunities to work on live briefs, CV workshops and mentoring from industry professionals.

To celebrate the new partnership, Kirklees College will be hosting a virtual event on Thursday 4 November from 2 – 3pm. The event will cover how to use Film Buddy, how to register and use the website and an introduction to the FB1-TV, a dedicated online channel where Film Buddy host live Q&A’s and masterclasses with some of the leading professionals in the industry.

There will also be a live Q&A at 3pm with Ian Hughes, Production Director at NBC Universal, who will offer an insight into his career and opportunities within the film industry. This will be available for all students to watch on the FB-1 channel from Friday.

Film Buddy will also be attending Kirklees College to deliver drop-in sessions to Creative Industries students. The drop-in sessions will all take place from 11am – 2pm on Tuesday 7 November and Thursday 10 December. In the New Year, sessions will be Tuesday 11 January and Thursday 13 January. Students will be able to get advice from Film Buddy’s team about how to start a career in the creative industries and ask any questions.
