Kirklees College is delighted to announce that Maegan Green, Apprentice Mechanical Design Engineer at Reliance Precision Limited, has been named Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year at the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards 2025.
Fellow Kirklees College and Reliance apprentice Leon Tomlinson, also received Highly Commended in the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category. Both apprentices were nominated by their colleagues at Reliance, who recognised the valuable input they have both had within the company since joining as apprentices in 2021.
The awards were given out in a formal ceremony on Thursday 1 May at Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, and celebrated the best of the best of apprentices and employers in West Yorkshire. The impartial panel of expert judges selected the winners and highly commended entrants from hundreds of nominations, so Maegan and Leon did exceptionally well to be recognised in this prestigious award.
Speaking about her award, Maegan commented:
“Winning the Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year award was a truly proud and humbling moment for me. It felt like recognition not just of my hard work and progress throughout the apprenticeship, but also of the support and encouragement I’ve received from my mentor, colleagues, and assessors at Reliance. Being acknowledged among so many talented individuals in the industry gave me a real sense of achievement and boosted my confidence in what I can accomplish moving forward.”
Robert Farrell, Training School Manager at Reliance Precision, added:
“Both Maegan and Leon deserve enormous credit for their outstanding achievements and the contributions they continue to make to the business. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch them grow and develop through their apprenticeships into the skilled and dedicated professionals they are today. We were thrilled when both were named finalists – a fantastic recognition in itself – and absolutely overjoyed when Maegan was announced as the winner of the West Yorkshire Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year award. We’re also extremely proud of Leon for being highly commended in his category – a remarkable accomplishment that reflects his hard work, determination, and the quality of his performance throughout the apprenticeship. Being acknowledged at such a high level is a testament to their effort and the strength of the apprenticeship programme here at Reliance. It was a truly special moment to celebrate their success together as a team.”
