Course Overview

This course has 100 hours of work placement to apply your skills and knowledge in an area of practice that interests you, providing a firm basis for your future career and underpinning the learning process. You will explore and recognise different experiences that clients have when accessing care and support. You will develop an understanding of partnership working to allow you to embed personal values and attributes to client-centred care.
You will also be introduced to anatomy and physiology and psychology of health and identify a range of common disorders, signs and symptoms (pathology) of these. Modules in the second year allow you to understand leadership and management within Health and Social Care settings, further placements will take place and you will continue to develop your own personal values and practices.
You will focus on your personal and professional development throughout the course and will integrate your skills and knowledge in academic and work-based settings. You will learn how to present information effectively and demonstrate independent and group working skills.
In Year One you will study the following modules: Care from a Client’s Perspective, Introduction to Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology of Health, Study and Lifelong Learning Skills, Communication and Collaboration and Foundations for Practice. In Year Two, you will study: Management of Mental Health across the Lifespan, Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care, Health Promotion, Rehabilitation Practice and Supporting Professional Practice.

Mature students without the traditional qualifications who can show evidence of sufficient and appropriate work-related experience will also be considered.

APEL opportunities are available for those with additional qualifications that can evidence learning outcomes for existing modules.

You can progress into employment or continue your studies onto a ‘Top-Up’ degree at Level 6 in Health and Social Care, e.g. BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care, or BA (Hons) Applied Community & Social Care Studies.

The cost of this course is £6950 and students are able to apply for funding through Student Finance England.
Students will be able to use their skills in Health and Social Care to seek employment within NHS trusts, private hospitals, children’s services, social services, family centres, and children’s homes.

Teaching and learning strategies include formal lectures, seminars, group activities, project work and private independent study. Work-based learning is integral to the course aims, enabling the use and evaluation of skills and knowledge in practice.
