On Monday 26 January, our Health and Social Care department welcomed the Focus4Hope charity to the Kirklees College Springfield Sixth Form Centre to speak with our Health and Social Care students.
Focus4Hope is a charity based in Brighouse and works closely within the community to support individuals and families in need. It provides a range of services, including a food bank and the Replenish clothing shop, which offers affordable access to unwanted designer clothing. The charity also supports the homeless community in Leeds by distributing care parcels and hot drinks.
How Kirklees College mirrors the ethos of Focus4Hope
Kate Jowett, a volunteer and Ambassador for Focus4Hope said: “Walking into the Springfield Campus building, I saw a quote on the wall which said: In a world where you can be anything, be kind. I thought that was amazing, and really mirrors our whole ethos at Focus4Hope.
“It was great to meet the Health and Social Care students, and after explaining a bit about what we do, I heard how much they enjoyed wrapping presents for a local food bank to give out over Christmas, to families who really needed extra help. It’s so encouraging to feel that the young people of Kirklees College are already well on their journey in supporting and caring for those who are vulnerable in our community. We look forward to working with you again in the future!”
Emma Whiteley, a Personal Development Tutor at Kirklees College said: “Thank you Kate for giving the students the opportunity to understand different careers within Health and Social care and also explore how they can support their community.
Check out the Focus4Hope website to find out more about them.
