As an apprentice, you will work alongside fitters and assemblers to learn and achieve the following production goals on a day-to-day basis:

  • Assemble electrical, mechanical and pneumatic components and sub-assemblies, such as pumps, motors, control panels, drive systems, gearboxes, valves/cylinders and chains
  • Read and understand general assembly drawings, electrical schematics and diagrams
  • Follow build procedures to ensure consistency is achieved
  • Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all assembly and installation tasks
  • Testing and inspecting of finished machinery during the PDI process (Pre-Delivery Inspection)
  • Using measuring tools such as micrometres, verniers, depth gauges and dial test indicators to ensure component accuracy during assembly
  • Utilise various power and hand tools effectively to complete assembly tasks
  • Comply with company standards regarding health and safety and other company guidelines/policies to maintain a safe working environment
  • Flexibility to work in various departments to learn the structure of the business and support production needs

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Mechatronics maintenance technician – Equal to Level 3 (A level)

Your training plan

You will attend Kirklees College Engineering Centre in Huddersfield throughout the duration of the 42 months apprenticeship.
