Course Overview

The Foundation Degree in Business and Management, through the awarding body University of Central Lancashire, will equip students with the knowledge and skills relevant to the world of business and careers in this dynamic industry.
You will then study 240 credits’ worth of compulsory Level 5 modules. These modules are: Applied Employability through Personal and Work Based Learning, Human Resource Management, Marketing Principles for Business, Accounting and Business and Management Practice.
Skills developed throughout the programme include thinking skills such as finding and synthesising information from a variety of sources, presenting and communicating and applying theory into practice. The skills are appropriate to making effective contributions to the chosen area of business.
At the end of the course, you will also be able to demonstrate an enhanced level of skills appropriate to making an effective contribution to working in the chosen area of business in an ethical, and professional manner. You will also learn effective communication, team work and be able to reflect on your own progress, target setting and evaluate outcomes.

Students will require 64 UCAS points, plus GCSE English and maths grade 4 or above.

This can be made up of:
BTEC Extended Diploma in a relevant subject at Merit, Pass, Pass
A Levels, including a relevant A Level e.g. Business Studies, Economics
Access to HE Business grade Pass

Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from FdA level studies are welcome. Where appropriate, they will be interviewed.
On completion of the FdA in Business students can progress to a ‘Top-Up’ degree with the University of Central Lancashire, or apply to other universities at Level 6 who offer a top-up option.
This programme could lead to careers in small or large organisations in a range of roles, for example marketing, management and team leadership.

Intellectual skills are partly assessed through time-constrained assessments. Most assessment is by coursework and in-class tests. The coursework may involve group work, seminar presentations, exercises, business reports and some academic essays. A few modules also have a formal examination as part of the assessment of thinking skills and other specific skills.
