Course Overview

On this course you will start develop your skills in double entry bookkeeping and gain a grasp of management and administrative processes. You will learn how to use manual and computerised accounting systems, and also how to work with purchase, sales and general ledgers.
Further study on this course will provide elements of costing, such as labour costs and overheads and budget and actual variations calculations. You will learn how to use accountancy software, through an introduction to computerised accounting software. You will also study units on how to work effectively in a finance role such as, personal skills and presenting information, as well as the role of the finance function in an organisation.
You will study a number of core units. Bookkeeping transactions, including VAT and discounts and recording credit sales. You will also learn how to record credit purchased and double entry bookkeeping. Bookkeeping controls, such as cash book and bank reconciliation, Journal entries and salary journals. As well as error corrections and revised trial balance.
On this course time will be spent in class carrying out different activities either individually or as a group. You will develop independent study skills, and you will be asked to apply theses to realistic assignments throughout the course. This course has two options for daily sessions: Mondays 09.00am – 3.30pm OR evening sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5.45pm – 8.45pm.

Although entry criteria is based on individuals, it is preferred that you have a minimum of GCSE grade 4/C in English and maths, or literacy and numeracy at level 2, or equivalent work based experience.
You can progress onto the Level 3 AAT qualification, an apprenticeship or employment
