The role will involve learning all aspects of accounting techniques and principles whilst in due course helping business owners by producing accurate and timely management information.

  • To assist the bookkeeping team with the preparation of VAT return and bookkeeping.
  • Operating individually and as part of a team to ensure service levels are achieved within the department
  • Input of data in preparation of accounts.
  • Entering financial data onto internal systems with a high level of accuracy and speed
  • Working with various databases to extract and manipulate information
  • Produce reports as and when required
  • Answering the telephone in a professional and helpful manner
  • Typing correspondence by e-mail and letter
  • Administrative duties as and when required
  • Use Microsoft Packages in particular Xero, Word & Excel.
  • Assisting all members of the team as and when required
  • Assist accountants with their duties
  • Booking in client records
  • Preparation of monthly bookkeeping
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • The person will become an important part of the team over time.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the organisation which is relevant to your post within the company to meet the overall business objectives.

As part of your contract of employment completion of the Apprenticeship Training Programme forms part of your duties as well as helping your personal and professional development; the requirements to complete the programme are as follows:

  • Attend and be punctual for all timetabled induction, lessons and all work-based training/support sessions
  • Complete all required assignments by the required timeline.
  • Build up your portfolio of evidence on-going during your apprenticeship programme.
  • Access support from your tutor/assessor and your manager as and when required

You will be required to attend Kirklees College in Huddersfield, The Waterfront Centre, one day per week.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills and personal qualities

Good academic background, good analytical skills, must be comfortable with mathematics and working with numbers.
Good software skills desirable – in the knowledge and use of Microsoft packages – particularly Word and Excel
Ability to learn how to use these packages is essential.
Numerate and good standard of literacy skills
Must be computer literate with a strong working knowledge of Outlook , Excel and Word
Able to work well under pressure, use initiative and work within strict deadlines
Possess good attention to detail and take pride in all tasks undertaken
Able to work in a team environment, supporting colleagues when required
Flexible regarding additional hours especially at month end
Able to communicate effectively at all levels and have the ability to listen and interpret instructions
Courteous and good telephone manner essential
Open to change and keen to learn new skills
A logical mind and thought process with dealing with problems faced and the solutions needed.

Qualifications

Grade ‘C’ or above in maths and English GCSE’s Grade ‘A’ GCSE maths Grade ‘C’ or above GCSE business studies or equivalent Grade ‘C’ or above A level maths IT qualification desirable Use of own car desirable All of the above (or equivalents) If you already have AAT L2 we may consider supporting you through your Accounts Assistant level 3 Apprenticeship
