This Remembrance Day, Kirklees College is encouraging everyone across the college community to take a moment to reflect, remember our heroes and support the Poppy Appeal.
As part of the project to commemorate the day, students and staff have created poppies that are displayed across all the centres.
At the pop-up workshops, the college community has made four styles of poppy to signify different communities who have been affected by the war. The workshops demonstrated four types of poppy that were suitable for all abilities to create, including cut out, painted, stitched and crocheted.
The red poppies signify a lasting memorial to those who died in WW1 and later conflict, white poppies remember those who have died in conflict while emphasising the lasting commitment to peace. The black poppies remember the African, Black and Caribbean communities who contributed in any way to the War effort and purple poppies are worn by those wanting to remember the animal victims of war.
The college also held a two-minute silence on Thursday 11 November which all staff and students will be observing.
