Course Overview
This qualification has been designed to develop your skills and understanding of the sport, therapy, rehabilitation and leisure industry and will prepare you for a variety of potential roles that you can pursue in the sector. You will be encouraged to participate in a wide variety of health and physical-based activities. This qualification is the equivalent in UCAS points to 3 A-levels and allows entry to university courses (student achievement dependent).
You will develop key knowledge and skills through academic and practical modules. You will learn important research skills which will be beneficial if you wish to progress to higher education. You will gain invaluable practical experience by applying your learning working with our sporting academies. You will undertake biomechanical observations and partake in experiments and testing methods, learning how to handle and interpret scientific data.
You will have the opportunity to work within our sport massage facility, examining muscloskeletal dysfunctions and working with athletes. You will gain an understanding of how the human body works by studying the anatomy and physiological principles, as well as looking at consequences of healthy and active lifestyles, components of diet and factors influcencing sports performance.
We encourage our students to further their own development by accessing and undertaking extra qualifications in first aid, massage and nutrition. Alongside your course, you can combine learning and playing by joining one of our sport academies for football or rugby league in partnership with Huddersfield Giants.

Core Skills Gained:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English at 4 or above and maths at 4 or above and 3 other GCSEs at 4 or above including PE and science.

Progression to Extended Diploma in Year 2, higher education or employment in the industry
This sports qualification can lead to a range of careers, including working as a sports therapist, sports masseuse, community sport and health officer or teacher.
You will be assessed through discussions, group presentations and activities, written assessments, practical demonstrations, fitness tests, logbooks and diaries and observations.
Students will be required to have a Kirklees College Sport Therapy kit to participate on this course. This can be purchased from gbkits.co.uk
