Course Overview

In the first year, you will study mandatory generic subjects to provide you with essential knowledge, technical and practical skills required for work in the public service sector. You will study up to five units covering a diverse range of material including: leadership and teamwork, outdoor expeditions, physical preparation and citizenship. The units have been developed to challenge and excel your personal development.
During the second year of this course you will have the option of selecting between our military or emergency service strand . This will enable you to hone in on bespoke subject areas and experiences to fully equip you for your next steps.
Our tutors are from ex-service personnel providing a wealth of significant experience to supplement your learning.
You will be presented with the opportunity to engage with both military and emergency services through, talks, visits, residentials and trips to get a first-hand experience of responding to emergencies and serving your community.

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English and maths at grade 4 or above and 3 other GCSEs at grade 4 or above.

If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.

This course has been designed to support transition and prepare you for a fulfilling rewarding career in the police force, fire service, military and armed or protective services. If university is your next step, this course also equates to tariff points to support higher education study. The intent of this course is to help you become occupationally ready to take up employment in the uniformed protective services sector.

There are two formal exams throughout this course one in the first year and one in the second. Other methods of assessment include discussions, presentations, practical participation, written assignments, reports and portfolios.
