Course Overview
Work Focus provides a learning environment for every learner that is personalised, inclusive, safe, enjoyable and challenging with appropriate support and guidance to enable them to develop academic, personal and employability skills.
The course content includes English and maths within a work-based context, developing awareness of employment related procedures, laws and challenges, the importance of good customer service, participation in a work experience placement (CafeA218, Beaumont Park, Uniform Exchange, Carriage Riding for the Disabled), and enrichment activities focused on developing a work/life balance.
Students will learn to identify their own strengths and areas for improvement in relation to employment. Students will learn how to respond to challenging working situations, as well as understanding their own needs.
Students will learn what is needed for personal success, learn about employment issues and about sources of support at work.

Students will study communication for employment, problem-solving, building and maintaining positive working relationships and keeping safe.

Core Skills Gained:
There are no formal entry requirements. You will take part in an interview to see if the course is right for you and to see if you have any additional support needs.

A Level 1 or 2 course at college, Supported Internship, Project SEARCH, voluntary or paid employment
This course is designed for students on an employability pathway. Students may be able to progress onto a vocational course or access support from employment support specialists to identify and apply for suitable opportunities.
Students will be assessed through their portfolio work, observations on weekly work-based activity, employer feedback, peer assessment and exams in English and maths if appropriate.
