Course Overview

The programme focuses on preparing and equipping students with the necessary life skills and work experience skills in order to progress onto other courses in college. English, numeracy and ICT are embedded throughout the curriculum.
Students will learn the core elements of learning and employment, independent living, community inclusion and health and wellbeing to promote each student’s confidence, resilience and independence.
Students will develop a key set of knowledge mapped to the preparation for adulthood outcomes which will include learning and employment, independent living, community inclusion and health and wellbeing.

Students will improve independence, learn to recognise their own strengths and their own areas for improvement. They will learn to understand their own behaviours in uncomfortable or challenging situations. Students will develop awareness of social and cultural issues as well as identifying sources of help and support. They will build positive relationships and learn to work with others, solve problems, manage and present information.

There are no formal entry requirements. You will take part in an interview to see if the course is right for you and to see if you have any additional support needs.

If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
Entry Level 2 Practical Skills or the Personal Skills course
This course is designed for students on an independent living pathway. Students may progress onto the Practical Skills programme.

Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of evidence to meet their targets on the course. You will be assessed through participation in individual and group activities through a variety of different methods that meet your needs, as well as observations of practical activities.

As a full time student aged 16-18 you will not usually need to pay any course or examination fees.
If you’re aged 19 and over will need to bring prrof of a means tested benefit.

You may need to pay some essential costs, these include stationary items such as A4 pads and ring binders, pens and pencils. You will also need to pay bus fares for external visits.
