Course Overview
The course provides you with opportunities to develop your work experience and employment skills in a few different settings. Placements involve being mentored externally in the work place while benefiting from specialist job coaches, pastoral support and tutor-led sessions in college. You will spend a day a week in college or on industry visits and participate in two days of placements throughout the week.
These roles have been selected to ensure tasks can be easily broken down and mastered with support. We have carefully built up our relationships with external providers to maximise student success and progression. Students need to be prepared to undertake the placements offered and have a positive attitude and a willingness to work.
Job roles are selected to facilitate realistic progression to employment after the course by ensuring students can master a few key aspects of a role. Some students will be encouraged to rotate to a different role later in the year if they need an additional challenge. The course focus is on achievable placements which include grounds maintenance, cleaning, waitressing, stock control, post deliveries and waste management.
Skills developed in both the classroom and on placement include time management, basic budgeting skills, following instructions, CV creation and updating, job search, dealing with conflict, asking for support, staying safe and developing greater independence. To help you manage the move into employment, you will benefit from access to experienced pastoral support and a tutorial programme.
