From 7 – 11 March, Kirklees College hosted Employability Week as part of National Careers Week 2022, to empower positive change through careers education.

The Kirklees College Careers Team ran virtual events to help students build their work skills and consider their career prospects through live online presentations from some of the region’s largest employers and marketplace fairs at our Huddersfield Centre and Springfield Sixth Form Centre.

On Tuesday we held a fair in the Atrium at our Huddersfield Centre and on Thursday we held a fair in the Refectory at our Springfield Sixth Form Centre. Students were able to speak with leading employers about their company, what they do and how they recruit.

Employers came from Stafflex, British Army, KAL, Fire and Rescue Service, Avon, West Yorkshire Police, NHS, Kirklees Council, Morgan Sindall, Leaf Agriculture, Co-operative Care Colne Valley, Royal Air Force and more.

Kirklees College also arranged for our students to receive virtual presentations from West Yorkshire Police, Actiform Engineering and Leaf Culture as well as mock interviews with Lloyds Bank, appointments with our Careers Team.

As part of Employability Week, our Level 2 Cabin Crew students visited FlyMe, an airline cabin crew training provision in South Yorkshire. Our students participated in various activities throughout the day including an emergency evacuation slide, door operation, smoke-filled cabin, and flight simulator.

We hope all of our students enjoyed the week and were able to make use of the fantastic opportunities on offer to explore their future career prospects.
