COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course will help to develop your knowledge and skills of general animal care, which is vital for anyone wishing to work within the animal care sector. You will also complete a module of learning that prepares you to progress to the T Level in Animal Management at Level 3.
The animal collection at Taylor Hill Animal Centre is varied and you will develop skills in handling, welfare and health of the different types of animals, for example, reptiles, birds and small mammals.
The course also involves a unit which allows you to develop your knowledge and skills in animal grooming. You will focus on grooming dogs and skills in bathing, health checks and grooming.
You will learn about the design and requirements of animal accommodation and undertake practical sessions such as cleaning, health checks and feeding to ensure the animals are safe and healthy.

A minimum of four GCSEs including GCSE English and maths, one at grade 4 and one at grade 3, and science grade 4. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed through written assignments, presentations and practical work.
Animal Care and Management T Level
You could progress to employment within the animal care and management industry, including animal collections, kennels, catteries, pet shops, animal welfare establishments, animal grooming parlours and veterinary nursing.
