Two students from Kirklees College are hoping to turn their passion for hairdressing into a full time career, by opening up their very own salon.

The salon, which is located in the Sandy Mount Residential Care Centre in Crosland Moor is the perfect venue for the hairdressing duo who will be able to put their talents to great use, beautifying the barnets of the residents as well as their current client base they’ve been building up.

Julie and Gemma met whilst studying towards their hairdressing qualifications. Having completed their qualifications in Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing and Level 3 Barbering, they are now going for the hat trick, studying towards Level 3 in Ladies Hairdressing.

“We had been searching for the perfect salon for some time, and as luck would have it, an opportunity arose to rent out the salon at Sandy Mount. By renting this space we not only have a permanent base with the latest equipment, but it also allows us to give something back to our fellow students by offering them the opportunity of work placements which is a necessity of the course,” said Gemma.

The only fly in the ointment… the bond for the salon. “In order for us to rent the space we need to raise an £800 bond. We’ve set up a JustGiving page and have had generous donations of £630 but with £170 to go, we are desperately looking for that extra funding to secure our dream,” said Julie.

With their background in the Care industry, Gemma and Julie are well placed to serve the needs of the 60 residents and are already getting interest for their services. They are asking any potential donators to help them raise the outstanding balance to allow them to open up the salon in the coming months and celebrate with a salon launch party.
