Grab some great grub and settle your rumbling tum with a trip to the Work Focus Café.
The hidden gem of Kirklees College wants to remind students and staff that it is open for business and serving delicious breakfasts and lunches, as well as a number of hot and cold beverages at competitive prices.
The Work Focus Café, an often overlooked eatery is open from 10am – 11.30am Tuesday – Thursday and allows pre-orders by phoning ext: 7645. The Cafe is run and managed by the students from Foundation Learning and is conveniently located at A.02.018.
From toast and crumpets to salads and jacket potatoes, the students prepare and manage the orders as well as offering a table service, allowing customers to sit back and relax and enjoy the ambience of the café.
With drinks prices starting from 50p, and a barista menu to rival Starbucks, the café offers a well-stocked menu of delicious fares and will often arrange special team meals such as afternoon tea, tapas evenings or Italian themed events.
For those with a sweet tooth, why not grab a cheeky treat from the tuck shop, which runs alongside the café, offering a range of chocolate and sweet temptations and is located in the Atrium.
Ricky Johnson, Support Worker for the students said: “The Work Focus Café is a fantastic initiative and in my opinion deserves 5 stars on TripAdvisor. The students work very hard to prepare, serve the food and run the café with minimal supervision. Our Foundation Learning courses are designed to improve essential basic skills as well as work and life skills and by being part of a team running the café, these essential skills are forming part of their everyday education.”
The skills Foundation students learn on their courses means many secure employment after their course has finished as well as progressing to higher level courses with Kirklees College.
