Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 (Saturdays)

This course focuses on all basic commercial salon techniques including shampooing, blow drying, setting, cutting and colouring. The NVQ level 2 is a progression after the level 1 course is complete and will enable you to expand and develop existing skills as well as gaining underpinning knowledge both practically and theoretically. Once your NVQ level 2 is complete your practical enrichment could include the following:- perming, barbering or level 3 cutting and colouring.

Start: week commencing 9th September 2019




You will study and be assessed on 9 units including:

  • Shampoo and condition
  • Blow drying
  • Setting
  • Cutting women's hair
  • Colouring women's hair

All units will include underpinning theory knowledge to enable each learner to complete the necessary written tests, assignments and practical assessments.  Each learner will also produce a portfolio of evidence.

Entry Requirements

  • Completed level 1 in Hairdressing and/or substantial basic skills in cutting and colour.


To join: You will need to attend a part-time enrolment session at the main Huddersfield Waterfront Quarter site.  Dates and times are as follows:

  • Wednesday 28th August (any time from 12:00-19:00)
  • Thursday 29th August (any time from 17:00-19:00)
  • Friday 30th August (any time from 10:00-13:00)

Please make sure to bring with you some photo ID, proof of address and, depending on your circumstances, either proof of benefits (something dated within the last three months) and/or a method of payment.  You are not expected to pay for the course in full upon enrolling – you can arrange to pay in monthly instalments to be completed by the end of the course in June.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed continually, either by observation or project work. The certificate is awarded on completion of a portfolio of work. There is substantial theory work to be completed in your own time and on going written tests.
