Kirklees College launches its new apprenticeship academy this year.  The aim of the academy is to offer opportunities to gain valuable work experience through a fixed term apprenticeship, working in a busy educational environment, to support the development of new skills that will help you move into sustained employment after completion of the apprenticeship.

What will the apprentice be doing?

You will be accountable for:

  • Working on receptions providing first point of contact to staff, students and visitors
  • Supporting applications with administration work using Prosolution and Promonitor
  • Support the student recruitment team in creating college promotional material in all formats aimed at school leavers
  • Support the student recruitment team with administration work using different Microsoft packaged and the Prosuite
  • Support the student recruitment team organising and running recruitment events and activities
  • Support the careers team in organising and running key themed events and producing documents to promote CIEG
  • Be part of the web team ensuring that course information is correct and up to date on the website and with the info team alerting people who have enquired as when new courses are on offer

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the organisation which is relevant to your post within the company to meet the overall business objectives.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Customer Service Level 2 Practitioner

The standard covers the following:

  • Knowledge
  • Skills
  • Behaviours and Attitude

You will complete an End Point Assessment this will involve the following:

  • Showcase Portfolio
  • Interview
  • Practical Observation
  • Professional Discussion

Functional Skills to be completed if candidate does not have the following exemptions may apply if Grade A to C or 4 to 9 GCSE, Functional or Key Skills Level 1 or 2 has been achieved.

You are given one day per week as time off to study. This will be on a Wednesday.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Whilst there will be no guarantee of a substantive position with the College at the end of the period, the College will guide, support and encourage suitable apprentices to apply for appropriate vacancies as and when they arise. The College has a very good record of supporting workers through in-house apprenticeships and many apprentices have secured employment with the College beyond their apprenticeship.

Qualifications

Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English is essential. An IT qualification is desirable.
