Wage – The current apprenticeship rate is £5.28 per hour or more, the wage range may be £10.982.40 to £21.673.60 – The starting rate will be dependent upon your experience – the rate may increase during the apprenticeship, subject to satisfactory achievement of work and apprenticeship targets.

What will the apprentice be doing?

The Apprentice Finance and Administration Officer will provide the appropriate Finance, Order Administration, Facilities Management and Administrative Support to effectively support the organisation, ensuring all obligations are met, to liaise with external parties such as bank, Auditors, Surveyors, Facilities.

Duties:

  • Keep financial records and perform financial procedures on a daily basis (e.g., receipts, payments, journals, supplier & customer invoices, requests, petty cash)
  • Daily reconciliation and cash flow forecasting for all companies
  • Daily production of contract renewal invoicing process
  • Ensure expenses are authorised and processed in accordance with agreed procedures
  • Maintain the accounting reporting process, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all ledgers and all supporting documentation and compliance with finance process and regulations
  • Maintain accounting records, ensuring they are complete, accurate, well archived and safeguarded
  • Ensure agreed reporting dates are maintained according to our policies and procedures
  • To facilitate the opening of new ledger accounts to the agreed process and for sales, with the approved credit limit, direct debit mandate and payment terms
  • Carry out the agreed debtors chase process reporting back as required
  • Reconcile Company Bank Accounts daily
  • Resolve accounts queries with relevant parties in a timely manner
  • Process payment schedules
  • Reconcile Suppliers invoices and statements
  • Produce monthly stock figures, reports & reconcile
  • Update database contracts
  • Month end procedures to achieve company deadlines
  • Ensuring that the Policies of the company are observed and that good practice is encouraged, particularly in the areas of Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and confidentiality

 

As part of your contract of the Apprenticeship Training Programme forms part of your duties as well as helping your personal and professional development; the requirements to complete the programme are as follows:

  • Attend and be punctual for all induction, lessons and work-based training & support sessions
  • Complete all required assignments and build a portfolio of evidence on-going
  • Access support from your tutor, assessor and manager

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

 

An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practise or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

We will be delivering the industry recognised AAT (Association of AccountingTechnician) Diploma in Accounting Level 3 as part of this apprenticeship standard.

 

You will complete an End Point Assessmen to test your Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours and will involve:

A portfolio/professional observation

A professional discussion

An in tray test

You will be required to attend Kirklees College in Huddersfield one day per week as part of your apprenticeship.

 

If you have an interest in finance administration, providing excellent customer service and also IT, then this is the role for you.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

 

There is a strong possibility that you will gain a permanent position following successful employment as well as achievement of the full apprenticeship qualification.

There may also be further apprenticeship or other training available following successful employment and achievement of the apprenticeship.

You should be IT literate and have a good understanding of Microsoft Packages, in particular, Excel, Word and Outlook

Must be punctual as well as having a good attendance record
Ability to work on own initiative, when required

Qualifications

Grade 4/C, or above or a Key or Functional Skill at Level 2 or above in Math and English is a requirement. An AAT qualification L2 or experience working in an accounts sector is essential; if you have AAT L3 Qualification already, we will consider you for the Apprenticeship at the higher level. An ICT qualification is desirable.
