The role is designed to provide an overview of all aspects of the finance function within a business environment; duties will be aligned to the apprenticeship training programme and apprentices will be mentored with a view to developing their progression on to either an AAT or ACA/CIMA course.
There is a strong possibility that you will gain a permanent position following successful employment as well as achievement of the full apprenticeship qualification.
What you will learn:
Purchase and sales ledger reconciliation
Processing purchase orders
Bank reconciliation
Payroll processing
Timely collation of data from a range of sources,
Assistance with preparing monthly management accounts
Administrative duties
Once trained, complete VAT returns, deal with data entry to month end management accounts and year-end financial statements.
As part of your contract of employment completion of the Apprenticeship Training Programme forms part of your duties as well as helping your personal and professional development; the requirements to complete the programme are as follows:
Attend and be punctual for all inductions, lessons and work-based training/support sessions
Complete all required assignments with regards to your apprenticeship by the required timeline.
Build up your portfolio of evidence on-going during your apprenticeship programme.
Access support from your tutor/assessor as and when required
Access support from your manager with regards to any evidence requirements or support as and when required.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the organisation which is relevant to your post within the company to meet the overall business objectives.
What will you study?
Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard Level 3
Candidates are required to have achieved AAT Level 2 or A have at least 1 years’ experience of accounting duties and complete the AAT Skills Scan to be accepted on the Level 3 Accountancy programme. Candidates are also required to already have achieved Maths and English GCSE Grade 4/C or above or a Key/Functional Skills Level 2 qualification – Original certificates are required as evidence.
The recommended time to complete is 18 months to allow for confirmation of successful examination results/re-sits.
The AAT L3 course starts in January/February and September. The day release is a Tuesday.
END POINT ASSESSMENT
Assessment will be through examinations in Bookkeeping, Computerised Accounting and AAT Level 3 Accounting. Apprentices will also be assessed through a synoptic end-test covering the knowledge & skills gained, a portfolio comprising a range of evidence produced in the workplace and a reflective discussion which will be a structured interview. All components will need to be passed in order to be awarded the apprenticeship.
An End-Point Assessment will be conducted by an external provider (interview, portfolio and synoptic test)
You will be required to attend college one day as part of your apprenticeship.
The salary may be negotiable. This will depend on experience.
- The salary may also increase after a probationary period, if the budget allows, following successful employment and production of the required work towards achieving the qualifications towards the apprenticeship training programme.
