A stylist who went on to start her own successful hairdressing business after studying at Kirklees College came back this week to present a masterclass to students.
Georgia Bell, who owns Twisted Scissors in Rotherham, gave a styling demonstration for students based in the college’s Xpert Hair Training Group salon in the Byram Arcade, Huddersfield.
Georgia began her career as an apprentice with Kirklees College (then Huddersfield Technical College) and XTG Hairdressing around 10 years ago.
Originally from Rotherham, she came to Huddersfield to do fashion at the university, but soon found she was more suited to hairdressing.
To keep on top of the latest techniques, Georgia still trains once a week in London with Sophia Hilton and regularly takes part in hair competitions.
Earlier this year she competed in the prestigious Affinage Colour Rebels competition and ranked in the top 15 nationally. She was also runner-up in the Redken City Beats awards.
Georgia’s salon offers hair, beauty, make-up and nail services and employs 15 staff, including manager Luke Flanagan, who joined Georgia for the demonstration.
Georgia and Luke showed students two very different balayage colour looks – one very natural and the other a striking hot pink. The latter was finished off with a Halloween sugar skull make-up design.
Hairdressing tutor Nick Stephenson said: “It is fantastic when we can welcome back our former students to share their experience and skills to inspire our current students.
“It helps us ensure that our courses are in touch with the latest industry trends and practices and adds variety to lessons.
“Thank you so much to Georgia and Luke for their time and for sharing their ideas and expertise.
“The students really enjoyed the experience and found it very inspirational for their Wella Xposure competition entries.”
The college salon in the Byram Arcade is open to the public during the week in term time. To book an appointment call 01484 533231.
